“Shelly and Sherman” (11)

Nancy didn’t really say anything to me,on the way to Sherman’s house. “Just please buckle up!”

I guess we were riding for about an half hour,I was looking out the window,the wind was blowing a little.

Nancy pulled in front of this big white house,with an fenced in front yard. I seen a lady standing at the front door. Someone was looking out the front window,of the house. As we stopped and got out of the SUV. This woman came out of the house,and Sherman came out behind her,and ran to me.

“Shelly! Shelly!” he cried

 

I ran to him and just cried,it was happy tears.

 

“Sherman, I can’t believe I finally found you.” We hugged for a few minutes,and my mind went back to when mom and dad,and both of us were together. We always went all over together,except for that one day. They told us,we couldn’t go on the plane with them. Because the last time we did,Sherman and I got real sick. Nevertheless,we stayed home,with mom’s friend from her work. It’s was mom and dad’s anniversary.

 

Nancy introduced me to Mrs Prance,and she said, “I hope your nice and quite like your brother.”

 

“Don’t worry Mrs. Prance,I won’t make any noise.”

 

Nancy said in shock,”Aren’t they both aloud to play,their just children?”

 

“Why sure they can! Sometimes,I get bad headache.”

 

Everybody helped me to bring my things up. Mrs. Prance showed me where my room was. It was down the hall from Sherman.

 

I My room had pretty pink curtain,with a small white bed and bureau. The room wasn’t big like,my room at Mindy’s house. It only had a little closet.I hope my clothes fit in their.

 

Any way,I’m here with my brother,everything will turn good.

 

“Okay your all settled,I’m going to leave. I have another family to tend to. If you should need anything just call me,Mrs. Prance.”

 

“I will!” “You already have Shelly set up for school,thank you.”

 

Nancy said good by to everyone,and went out to her vehicle,and drove off.

 

“Did you have anything to eat Shelly?”

 

“Yes!” before I left Mrs. Flunet house,we all ate.”

 

“Sherman show your sister around the house,you can show her your room. Don’t go into my room.”

 

Sherman showed me around the house. I started to run up the steps,but he stopped me in my tracks.

“Shelly don’t ever do that,Mrs. Prance will yell at us. She likes it very quite,so I go in my room and play. You can’t run around,or yell. She’ll make you go to your room.”

 

“Sherman it sounds like she doesn’t like kids.”

 

“Maybe, I don’t know,I just don’t want her to yell at us”

“I”ll try and remember,to walk on my toes.”I laughed

 

“Does she let you go outside and play?”

 

“Sometimes,if she is in a good mood.”

 

“I wish mom and dad were still living.”

 

“Me to!” answered Sherman

 

At the bottom of the steps, Mrs. Prance said, I’m sure you seen enough,so you both get washed and go to your rooms. You both have school tomorrow,good night!”

 

I looked at my brother and said,”I didn’t see your room.”

 

“It’s back here.” He opened his door,and his room was smaller then mine. He had a dark brown bed and bureau,with brown curtains. It was really dark in there,you don’t have any room to play.”

“I just play on my bed,now go and get really for bed.Then it’ll be my turn.”

 

“I have to find my night dress first. I guess,I’ll unpack tomorrow after school.”

“I’ll help you tomorrow if you want me to. Now get ready for bed,before she comes upstairs.

Good night Shelly”,then he gave me a hug. “I will fill much better,since you are here with me.

 

“Shelly and Sherman” (5)

Mrs. Flunet said that she was taking Mindy and I out shopping for schools clothes. This summer really went by fast. I’m going into the second grade,and Mindy’s going into the third grade. It’ll be fun going back to school,and seeing my all friends.

After we ate lunch,all three of us gathered into Helen’s red,station wagon. Mindy and I both sat in the back. We started playing tic-tac-toe,and as usual,Mindy always beats me.

When we arrived at to the department,I picked out a couple of outfits. Also Mindy did the same. We both brought,the same pair of shoes. The outfits,since we both take the same size,we said,we could borrow each other clothes,which would be fun.

After we were finished shopping,Mindy’s mom,took us to McDonald’s and we each got an kids meal. Then we went back home with our new clothes,and were so happy.

The following week,Helen received a letter in the mail about school. The day we are going to start,which was the following week. Even the names of our new teachers.

Next week came,and Mindy and I went to bed early.We were both excited about school the next day. So it didn’t matter to us about going to bed early. The following morning,we both got up and ate breakfast. After wards, Mindy and I walked to school,which was only a couple of blocks from our house. The morning was nice and clear,no rain in sight,just a beautiful morning.

The school day went in a flash. My teacher’s name was Miss.Barbee. She was real nice to the whole class. I made a new friend,that sat next to me. Her name is Becca Holt,she has short,curly auburn hair,and about as tall as me. After school,we both waited for Mindy,and we all walked home together. Becca only lives around the corner from us. Mindy and I said good by to her,and we would see her tomorrow.

Laughing and telling each other what happen in school day,the rest of the home. We both went into the house and shut the door,and Mrs. Flunet heard us both.

“Did you both have a good day in school?”

We said at the same time, “Yes!” Also that it was a nice day. We both brought a paper home,for all the supplies we needed for class.

“Mindy and Shelly, put your papers on my desk. I’ll go to the department store tomorrow while you both are in school. Do either of you have homework? If you do,go upstairs and do it,while I make dinner.”

“I don’t have any.” answered Mindy

“I don’t either.” I answered

“Then you both go upstairs,and change your clothes.Dinner will be ready soon.”

Mindy and I both ran up the steps,and got changed. When we finished,we sat down on Mindy’s bed,and talked about school,and I told her about my good friend Becca.

“Shelly and Sherman” (4)

I didn’t say anything to Mindy. We got ready for bed, and said good night. She went in her room,and I went in mine. I waited for Mindy to fall asleep. When I thought she was,I peeked into her room,because the door wasn’t shut.

Mindy was laying in her bed still, with her eyes closed. She already fell asleep.

I slowly knelt down on my knees, at the top of the stairs. And tried to listen,to them both talking.

What I heard was,they both had to make their minds up.

Helen was talking,”where Sherman is living,his carers said,that he isn’t happy. He wants to be with his sister,and they both agreed with him. They shouldn’t of been separated in the first place. They both want to have Shelly placed in their home,with her brother. But they can’t do that,because we placed Shelly in our home first. It would be up to us to either,take Sherman also with Shelly. If we don’t want to do that,then we could give up Shelly,and they would place her in their home.”

Tom said,”If must be hard for both of them,especially after losing their parents. Then because of us,they were separated. We are new at this,I don’t know if we can afford another child living here. We don’t have another bedroom for him.

“Maybe we can move Shelly into Mindy’s room with her?”Helen said

“Let’s sleep on this Helen.”

When I heard that,I hurried to my room,before they both came upstairs. After I jumped in the bed,I heard someone go into the bathroom.

I laid awake for quite a while,thinking about what they are going to do. I don’t want either of them to know, that I was spying on them. I can just imagine,Sherman,moving in with us. I think,I’ll try that again. I know we all would make a happy family. Everybody,would just love my brother,and he would be so happy living here.

I must have fell asleep finally,because,when I woke up. The sun was shining,the birds were singing. That was a good sign to me. Then I thought about last night,and hope everything turns out,like it should have been.

Mindy came in my room and said,”how come you’re not out of bed yet?”

I laughed at her,”I was watching the beautiful things outside my window. But your right,I’m going into the bathroom. I’m taking a shower,and getting dress.Then go down stairs and eat breakfast.”

“Okay Shelly, I’ll wait for you.”

A month passed,and I didn’t here any more about Sherman. I just wonder,if they forgot about him. I can’t mention anything,because I wasn’t suppose to spy on them. Mindy doesn’t know anything about the secret. Because,I didn’t want her to know,I was spying on her parents. Mindy probably thinks,that I forgot about my brother,but I didn’t.

Shelly and Sherman (3)

Helen picked up her address book,and found Nancy number.

“You both go in the kitchen,and get some milk and cookies. Sit down and eat them,while,I’m on the phone.”

Mindy and I, jumped up and down,we both were very happy.

After we both went in the kitchen, I heard Helen talking.

“Hello” she said, Is this Nancy?”

It must have been her, because she said,”This is Helen Flunet calling again.”

“I’m calling,to see if you changed your mind about Shelly’s, brother,Sherman. Coming to see her today,for their birthday?”

Mindy’s mother listened on the phone,for about five minutes,to hear what she had to say.

Then,we heard her say,”Well,I’ll have to talk to my husband about this matter. I’ll call you later,with our answer. We’re going to need some time.” Then she hung the phone up,and just stood there for a few minutes.

Mindy and I ran into the living room where she was standing.

“What did she say? Is Sherman coming today?” I said happily

“No he isn’t Shelly,I’m sorry.”

“Why not? This isn’t fair?”

“I know,but,Tom and I have to work something out. We have to have a long talk,together.”

“Then, I can see Sherman, can I?”

“We just have to wait and see. He’ll not be here today.So what do you want to do for your birthday?”

“Nothing!” I said

“Well you and Mindy go back outside in the yard. I’m going to bake you a cake. What kind do you want?”

“Sherman and I both like chocolate cake.”

“Okay chocolate it is,now you and Mindy go out and play,it’s nice out there.”

Later that day, Mr. Flunet came home,and told me he had a surprise for me.”But you can’t see it, until after dinner.”

After we all ate dinner,Mrs.Flunet brought out my chocolate cake. Mr. Flunet put the candles on the cake,and everybody sang “Happy Birthday”. I opened all my gifts,Mindy gave me a pretty doll,that had long black hair like mine,with brown eyes. Mrs. Flunet gave me a couple of games,that I like. Mr. Flunet brought me this beautiful bracelet,with my name on it. They all tried to made me happy,which I was, but not inside.

Later that night,we all watched some television,then Mindy and I play a couple of games. Before long,it was time to get ready for bed. Mindy and I had to get up and go to the hairdresser,in the morning. I needed my hair and bangs trimmed. Mindy wanted to get her hair curled,like her mothers.

When both of us went upstairs,to get ready for bed. I over heard Helen telling Tom,that they had to talk about something important.

“Lets wait until the girls are asleep.” Tom said

“That is what I thought Tom.”

Shelly and Sherman (2)

“Yes I said it!” “Today is August, 2nd, me and my brother, Shermans birthday.” Get dressed Mindy,then we can eat breakfast,and go see Sherman.”

“I don’t know Shelley!”

Mom and dad are sleeping, we aren’t going anywhere ,any time soon.”

When Mindy’s parents both came down stairs an hour later. I started to jump up and down.

Mrs.Flunet said,”What’s wrong with you child?”

“Don’t you know what today is?”

“Oh!” “That right!” “Today is your birthday!”

Mr. Flunet,looked at me with a smile,and said, “Happy Birthday,Shelly!”

“Helen said to her husband,”don’t you start Tom, it’s just another day.”

He gave her this nasty look,and said, “I’m going out for a while.”

“Go!” “Don’t let the door hit you in your ass.”Helen said

Me and Mindy’s,eyes lit up,with our mouths wide open.

“Mom!” Mindy said.

“Why don’t you and Shelly go out and play.”

“When is Sherman coming?” I cried

Helen replied, ”Sherman isn’t coming. I didn’t want to burst your bubble yet. But I called Nancy,your social worker a couple of days ago. She suggested, against it.”

“But why?” Today is our birthday. I want to celebrate it with my brother.”

“Nancy knows best, Shelly.”

“She does not! Nancy just wants to be mean!”

“There is nothing,I can do about it. Go outside and play with Mindy. We’ll have a little party later.”

“I don’t want one without Sherman.”

“If that is the way you want it,then no party.”

“I’ll go out with Mindy and play,but I want to find Sherman.”

“Mindy,go out with Shelly and play.”

As they went out the back door,Mindy’s mom whispered to Mindy in her ear.

“Make sure you watch her.”

Once Mindy and I went in the backyard. We both sat on the swings. While we were swinging,I noticed, it was a beautiful day. The sun was shining from the blue,blue sky.

“I should be happy,this is mine and Sherman’s day. He isn’t here,and he won’t be coming. This isn’t fair,if Mrs.and Mr. Flunet,took Sherman in with me,he would already be here. It’s all their fault!” ( I thought)

“I am so sad for you Shelly, today is your birthday. You shouldn’t look so sad.”

“Why can’t they let me see my brother,at least for today?”

“I don’t know Shelly,maybe my mom can call your social worker again.”

“Let’s go back in the house,I’ll ask your Mom.”

“Okay,let’s go!”

When we went back in the house, Mindy slammed the door behind her. We could see the television,as we came into the house,from the backyard. Helen was watching,a talk show,in the living room.

She yelled,”didn’t I tell you girls not to slam the door?”

“Sorry mom,it was me.”

“I thought you girls,just went outside to play?”

“I came back in,to ask you,if you can call my social worker back.Maybe you can ask her again,if she can let Sherman come to our party.”

“There has to be a reason Shelly. Maybe they don’t know where he was placed.”

With tears in my eyes, I said, “That doesn’t make sense to me. We were told at the place,they took me and Sherman to. When we were told, about mom and dad. That all of their social workers and carers, care about all the children. They like to keep them all happy.”

“To keep you happy, I’ll see if Nancy is in.”

“Thanks,I said,with a big smile.

“Little Mary Lou”

This story is about a little girl living in a big city, called”Brotherly Love”. Her name is Mary Lou,and she is four years old. Mary Lou, loved to go walking with her sister Josie.

Josie was twelve years old,and she liked to make her little sister happy. After school,while their parents were both working,

Josie use to go to Mary Lou’s sitter,and take Mary Lou,walking around town,window shopping,and stopping to feed the birds and squirrel’s at the park. Sometimes,they would stop at the ice cream stand and get each a cone.

Well this one day,Josie and Mary Lou stopped at the park,and fed the birds and squirrels. Because Josie had lunch left over from lunch,and didn’t want to take it back home.  As they were sitting on the bench at the park,Gabbie, a friend of Josie’s was walking through the park. Gabbie stopped by to talk to her friend. Both were so engrossed into what was going on in school. Josie didn’t see Mary Lou get up,and  go over to a little puppy,that was wandering around. The puppy had a light brown body,and dark black spots. Nevertheless,Mary Lou wanted to pet the puppy,but it kept running around playing. So Mary Lou followed the puppy,right out of the park.  She followed it at least for about three blocks.

Before she knew it,the puppy was  nowhere in sight.  Mary Lou started to cry,and try to get back to the park. But she just kept going around and around in circles.

Back at the park,maybe a half hour later, Josie looked for Mary Lou,she yelled and screamed for her. But Mary Lou wasn’t anywhere in the park. Josie got scared and ask Gabbie to help her find her sister.  You go up that street their,and I’ll take the next street,and we should meet.  After they did that,no Mary Lou in sight. Josie and Gabbie got scared and had tears in their eyes.

“Where is she”,Josie cried?”

“Lets try going another couple of blocks ,and keep our fingers cross”,Josie cried

“Okay!” Gabbie said

Again they both hurried up and down another block,with no luck.

“Lets go to my house and tell my mom and dad we can’t find her.”said Josie

They both hurried off,when they crossed the street. There standing in front of the ice cream store was Mary Lou.

“Mary Lou, why did you take off? We couldn’t find you anywhere.”yelled Josie

“I followed a puppy,and I got lost,but when I found the ice cream store. I knew you would come and get me here. Because we were gonna stop and get ice cream weren’t we?”

Tiger,and George

This story is about,Tiger,our favorite. She will be thirteen on Valentines Day. My husband Charlie,my son Henry and I adopted her  from the  A.S.P.C.A.

Mostly, all the animals  we adopted through the years, has been from  their.  My son and I went out their a couple of times looking for a cat, after we lost another cat we raised. Sadly the cat died from old age,but she had a happy long live of twelve.

We couldn’t decide on which cat to take home. It would of been nice,to take all of them home, but we only had room,for one. Nevertheless, I don’t think our dog George, would like more than one . He was up in age also, he liked having a side-kick to keep him company,when we weren’t home.

Any way,we chose,Tiger,she was about a year old.  When we brought her home, George and Tiger acted like they were already friends,which was a good sign.
Tiger and George were both spoiled, when I didn’t spoil them ,Henry did.   We always had animals in the house, when I was  growing up. Mostly a dog, rarely a cat.

My mother was more of a dog lover,but we also had,  a pet rooster, out side.  I can remember,our dog playing with the rooster.  The rooster would jump on the dogs back, and the dog would give it a  ride.

There has been a lot of good memories,from having pets,as we were growing up. That is the reason,my husband and I always had a pet in the house.

Tiger has taught herself,to do tricks for her treats. She’ll wave her paw at you,to get her way. She’ll even do a trick with her back leg,we call it a ditter.

Sometimes,if she doesn’t get her own way,she’ll gallop from the back of the house in the kitchen,to the living, doing a hundred miles an hour. I’m telling a little white lie,but it’s fast. We just sit their and laugh,and she gets madder.  Of course we give in,because she is a good watch cat.
